A2 Alevel Fine Art.

The concept for a brown paper market bags came from the overall theme of 'Environment'. Each bag was inspired by a different stall of a market. The handmade appearance of the bags reflects the atmosphere of a market. The overall purpose of the bags was the celebrate the traditions of a market, at a time where they aren't as important to the majority of society anymore.

Forgotten // Solution 1

This is the first half of my A2 Art coursework project. After selecting the theme 'Lost and Found', I focused in on the forgotten/lost aspect. The brief I then developed was to create a piece of work that generated an atmosphere. 

After heavy research and analysis into Jane and Louise Wilson's work (photographed below in the RA Summer Exhibition) I chose to develop a piece that had an overwhelmingly eerie atmosphere.

The piece I created in reflection of Jane and Louise and my starting brief, was a series of layered pieces, featuring photoshopped overlaid images, cardboard expressive marks and cutouts on acetate. The pieces are framed with a rustic 'unfinished' wooden frame; the includes rusty nails, hooks and chains - the idea being to add to this abandoned and forgotten quality of the work. Presentation of the work will feature eerie noise, captured when I visited and photographed my local under passage /subway at night. 

In the project I also presented an essay titled 'Provoking Emotion, Artwork that Envelops the Audience'.

Forgotten // Solution 2

This is the second solution to my A2 art coursework. Click HERE for full summary, from solution 1. 

The second solution again aimed to achieve an eerie atmosphere, this time through the idea of 'Shadows' - when you walking alone, maybe through a wood, and it feels like someone is following you, that your not alone, yet you cannot see anyone. Artist inspiration from Gormley's figured, one located in my local city.

Achieved by using thick tracing paper with pen drawings of 'eerie' old looking trees, layered up with cutout sections and figured 'hiding'. Figures were later cut, generated on the 2D Design programme from photographs I had taken, onto a grey 'clear' acrylic plastic and wrapped with silver wire. This combination created interesting shadows.

The Seashore

This project titled 'The Seashore' was for my AS Level Fine Art exam. The concept for the project was to explore the beauty as well as pollution and destruction of  our coastline.

 

I set out exploring textures relating to our beaches and eventually after an investigation of Seung - Hwan Oh's work, I experimented with destruction and erosion techniques - including bleaching and burning/ bubbling with a heat gun. The heat gun experiment created an interesting distortion of my photographs which I moved forward with.

 

I took a trip to the National History Museum, Oxford, and close ups of rock patterns took my interest. So on top of the burnt images I added these 'contour' lines with both white pen ink and with the sewing machine. I left the excess string hanging from the images to add to the destruction element of the final piece.

Green

 

For this independent project I took the colour 'green' and explored it visually through different media, including printing, paper cut and pen drawings. As a sub theme for the sketchbook project I looked closely at nature.

Reflections

 

'Reflections' - a photographic and painting project for my Fine Art AS level. I studied artists who's painting featured glass objects. From this I experimented with my own photography, placing glass objects on black and white backgrounds, lighting them with fairy lights. I found the results really interesting, particularly the photographs that were more cropped and close up of the glass and lights.

 

In a series of three I selected three images to paint using acrylic - the composition being that each image was more abstract and 'zoomed'.
